The Waterworks Museum in Hereford is an operationing museum that vividly brings the history of drinking water to life. Visitors can explore the UK’s widest collection of working pumps and engines from Herefordshire, nearby counties, and Wales, many of which are the last remaining operational examples of their kind. It represents the best of heritage engineering, all maintained and operated by devoted volunteers. On steam days, visitors experience the sights, sounds, and smells reminiscent of the Victorian era when some engines are in steam. Recognised as one of Herefordshire’s top attractions, this award-winning museum offers something for everyone. Relax in our welcoming Café after you have seen the exhibits. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on leads.
The Museum is just a short walk from the River Wye and has free parking and disabled access. Children can enjoy interactive exhibits, including the unique Heritage Water Park. There is the popular frog trail and quizzes for our younger visitors, and children under 16 can go free. There’s also an exhibition about Hereford during WWII. Each exhibit has its own story to tell, inviting you to discover more.
